A Museum Without Walls
Utilizing the lessons of the past with eyes on the future, Tulsa Children’s Museum employs a business model that lends itself towards sustainability:
- Committed to “best practices” and the integration of current educational philosophies
- Web Presence – Tulsa Children’s Museum website allows visitors to learn about its history, mission, future goals, and programming in addition to having a “voice” through on-line surveys
- Implementation of a media plan including appearances on news stations and articles in local newspapers and magazines such as Tulsa Kids, Tulsa People, and Intermission Magazine
- Utilizing nationally recognized, independent consulting to help target programming needs and possible locations for the museum
- Current member of the Arts and Humanities Council of Tulsa
- Current member of the Association of Children’s Museums - a global leader, advocate and resource among organizations serving the learning needs of children and families.
By assessing the needs and interests of the community before the pursuit of a permanent location, Tulsa Children’s Museum is able to focus on creating quality programming, building collaborative relationships, and inspiring play and a love of learning through traveling exhibits, classes, workshops and concerts. Although the ultimate goal is to open a facility of its own, for now Tulsa Children’s Museum is a “museum without walls.”
