Community Support
On-Line Survey
It is our goal to eventually house a community children’s museum – so community involvement is extremely important to us. With that in mind, in November 2007, the Tulsa Children’s Museum board launched an on-line survey to gauge public interest. Response to the survey grew rapidly, with now over 1000 respondents representing all four quadrants of Tulsa and the surrounding areas.
Here is a brief overview of the results:
- Almost 90% are familiar with the concept of a children’s museum.
- About 60% of Tulsans visit 1-2 children’s museum each year.
- 90% are interested in purchasing an annual membership.
- About 60% visit 1-2 children’s museums per year.
- 78% have never been to Jasmine Moran Children’s Museum in Seminole, Oklahoma.
- 92% have never been to Leonardo’s in Enid, Oklahoma.
- Only 1% said they would never visit a children’s museum housed in Tulsa, while the majority said they would visit often.
- 93% said they would like to develop their child’s creativity.
- Over 80% chose “making nutritious choices” as the health and wellness program that interests them the most.

Feasibility Study
While the survey was an excellent vehicle to gain public interest, the board felt the need to hire an outside firm to conduct further research. In January 2008, the Tulsa Children’s Museum board hired Triangle2, a full service consulting firm that works primarily with non-profit organizations, to conduct phone interviews to Tulsa residents. Triangle2 conducted 426 telephone interviews with Tulsa area parents with children under the age of 12 years old. A highlight of the study is as follows:
- 99% say that they would be interested in visiting a children’s museum housed in Tulsa, with an estimate of 305,096 visitors per year.
- On average, they estimate 85% of the entire population of people with children under age 12 would visit at least once a year, with the number of visits per year being price sensitive.
- Only 30% of families have visited a children's museum in Oklahoma.
- Health and Wellness topped the Outreach Programming categories with a 54% interest.
- The eleven potential exhibits proposed by TCM were all received with high ratings of interest.
- The educational sites most visited in Tulsa are the zoo and the aquarium. More than half of all families visit these attractions at least twice a year.
